Plan how you will pay for flight training
Before choosing financing, get a written training estimate for your certificate or rating. Compare savings, scholarships and borrowing against a realistic lesson schedule, including testing, supplies and additional practice. DuBois Aviation can help explain training costs; we do not promise loan approval, scholarship awards or airline employment.
Start with a complete training budget
Our published private-pilot planning budget is approximately $20,000, not a fixed-price guarantee. Aircraft choice, preparation and training progress affect your total. Use our flight-school cost breakdown for Chino to understand aircraft rental, instruction, ground school, medical and test fees, equipment and a contingency reserve. Confirm a current estimate with the school before applying for funding.
Compare your funding options
Personal savings and a sustainable lesson schedule
Decide how much you can commit without depending on a future pilot salary. Ask the office about current billing and payment arrangements rather than assuming a monthly plan or discount is available. A manageable, consistent schedule is more useful than a training plan you cannot maintain.
Flight-training scholarships
The AOPA Foundation flight-training scholarship program publishes opportunities and eligibility requirements. Check the current application window and required documents directly with AOPA. Awards are competitive; do not count a scholarship as available funding until you receive an award and confirm how it may be used.
Third-party flight-training financing
AOPA Aviation Finance publishes a flight-training financing option. This link is a research starting point, not a statement that DuBois Aviation is a lender or has a special arrangement with the provider. Confirm lender eligibility, school eligibility, current terms and how funds are disbursed before you apply. We do not publish a teaser monthly payment or interest rate because your actual offer and repayment obligations matter.
Questions to ask before signing a loan
- What are the APR, fees, total repayment amount and monthly payments?
- Is the rate fixed or variable, and when does repayment begin?
- Is interest charged on the approved amount or only funds drawn?
- Are there membership, credit, income or co-borrower requirements?
- Can the funds cover your particular school, certificate, aircraft and testing costs?
- What happens to unused funds or prepaid training if you pause, change schools or stop training?
- Can you afford repayments if training takes longer or airline hiring changes?
Request the lender’s written disclosures and compare offers carefully. Discuss borrowing decisions with a qualified financial adviser if you need personal advice. Never send Social Security numbers, bank statements or loan documents through our general training inquiry form; provide sensitive documents only through the lender’s verified application process.
